Pileated Woodpecker Projects

Hinton Wood Products

Poseidon’s biologists are currently revisiting known Pileated Woodpecker nest cavities that were previously identified by Richard L. Bonar during the 1990’s. Pileated woodpeckers choose large deciduous trees that have begun to decay to excavate their nest cavities. The cavities are an important resource for cavity-using wildlife in western boreal forests. Our team is visiting the known nest sites to determine if the trees are still standing and occupied.
